PRACTICAL COURSES: POWER
LEVEL 1
The Level 1 course is a one-day course introducing you to
boating techniques for launching and recovering, boat handling,
the use of safety equipment and returning to shore. There
is also an introduction to background theory.
Your ability following successful completion of this course
is the ability to drive a powerboat under supervision, and
thus is ideal for younger students.
LEVEL 2
The Level 2 course is a two-day course providing you with
the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat.
This course is also the basis of the International Certificate
of Competence. You will be trained in close quarters handling,
high speed manoeuvres, man overboard recovery and collision
regulations. Taking the course with us in Mallorca will provide
you with a coastal endorsement for your certificate.
If you are already an experienced powerboat driver and need
to gain this certificate for your work, you may undertake
a short (half to one day) assessment rather than the full
two day course.
ICC
An International Certificate of Competence acts like a 'driving
licence' for a powerboat. It is a certificate that states
you are at a level of expertise that enables you to charter
and drive a powerboat, with an understanding of the capabilities
of yourself, your crew and your vessel.
INTERMEDIATE
A progression from the Level 2 course, and introduces pilotage,
navigation and boat handling techniques for planing boats
on coastal waters by day. At the end of the two-day course
you will be able to plan and execute short coastal passages
by day
ADVANCED
This course provides the skills and background knowledge needed
to drive a powerboat by day or night in known or unfamiliar
waters, the skipper's role and boat handling in more demanding
conditions. Due to the demanding nature of this course, you
should be competent to the standard of the Intermediate Powerboat
Certificate and with knowledge of navigation and chart work
to the level of Day Skipper (please refer to our Navigation
section). The course is two days including a night navigation
exercise.

PRACTICAL COURSES: MOTOR
HELMSMAN COURSE
This two-day course covers basic boat handling, helmsmanship,
safety and basic engine maintenance. It is ideal for
the new owner who is conscious of the difficulty and
potential hazards of boat handling in the marina.
DAY SKIPPER
This four-day course gives you the opportunity to skipper
a motor cruiser on short passages under instruction.
You will concentrate on pilotage, boat handling, seamanship
and navigation. Taking the course here in Mallorca will
provide you with a non-tidal course completion certificate.
Aigua will advise you on your application for an International
Certificate of Competence (ICC). Following the course
you should be competent to skipper a motor cruiser in
familiar waters by day. You will benefit further from
taking this course if you also study the Day Skipper
theory syllabus.
COASTAL SKIPPER
A five-day course for the more ambitious motor cruising
skipper wanting to undertake coastal passages by day
and night. On the course each trainee will skipper a
passage in a variety of situations and learn more about
safety, passage planning, pilotage by day and night,
boat handling and emergency situations. It is recommended
that you attend this course with some experience: 15
days at sea, two days as ‘skipper’, 300
miles sea miles logged and eight night hours. Your theory
knowledge should be at the level of Coastal Skipper.
