Level 1 Powerboat Training Course

The Level 1 Powerboat training course is a one-day course introducing you to boating techniques for launching and recovering, powerboat handling, the use of safety equipment and returning to shore. There is also an introduction to background theory.

Your ability following successful completion of this powerboat training course is the ability to drive a powerboat under supervision, and thus is ideal for younger students.

Level 2 Powerboat Training Course

The Level 2 Powerboat course is a two-day powerboat training course providing you with the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat. This course is also the basis of the International Certificate of Competence. You will be trained in close quarters handling, high speed manoeuvres, man overboard recovery and collision regulations. Taking the course with us in Mallorca will provide you with a coastal endorsement for your certificate.

If you are already an experienced powerboat driver and need to gain this certificate for your work, you may undertake a short (half to one day) assessment rather than the full two day course.

ICC: International Certificate of Competence

In many countries around the world, when chartering a powerboat or even sailing your own powerboat, there will be a requirement for the skipper to provide evidence of his or her competence. You could not hire a rental car without a licence, so this is kind of same thing but for boats. In practice documentary evidence may seldom be inspected, but it is generally useful and in some countries essential to carry an ICC.

The ICC is available to British subjects or British residents, nationals of non-UNECE countries, and USA and Canadian nationals. Please do check with a member of the AIGUA team to see if you will be eligible for such a licence. You can apply for an ICC with a Powerboat Level 2 practical course completion certificate or by successfully completing an assessment. At Aigua Sea School, we run the training courses and assessments; please contact us for further information.

Advanced Powerboat Training

This Advanced Powerboat training course provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat by day or night in known or unfamiliar waters, the skipper's role and boat handling in more demanding conditions. Due to the demanding nature of this course, you should be competent to the standard of the Intermediate Powerboat Certificate and with knowledge of navigation and chart work to the level of Day Skipper (please refer to our Navigation section). The course is two days including a night navigation exercise.
